Student at Idaho State University
About Me
My name is Corey Bridges and I am currently a student at Idaho State University and am double majoring in General Business and Mass Communication (with an emphasis in Visual Communication). I will be graduating this December and I am excited about all the possibilities that come after college. I have two associate degrees in Art and Liberal Arts from the College of Southern Idaho. I want to use my background in art to bring new and creative approaches to everything I do in life.
I have many goals and dreams, as everybody does. Perhaps my most ambitious goal is to eradicate the modern-day slave trade. Today there are twenty-seven million slaves in the world, but not enough people know that. That is one of the reasons I have chosen to major in Mass Communication. I want to spread the word about slavery so that more people will know what is happening; because only when they realize what is happening can they do something about it.
My decision to double major in General Business is also because of modern-day slavery. I ultimately want to run a business that helps slaves find their way to freedom and reintegrate into society. Not only will this business help them find freedom but will educate them and train them with job skills. Ideally it will offer medical assistance, temporary housing, counseling, and friendship.
As I work toward this goal I will continue doing the things I love. More than anything I love mentoring. I currently mentor a girl in middle school and the two of us always have a blast together. To me mentoring is all about having an older (and I like to think wiser) friend. We talk, hike, cook, play, and just hang out. Most importantly mentoring is about being there for someone who has no one else.
I work as a tutor with the America Reads Program at Idaho State University. In this program I help third grade students learn to read and write. In the past I have tutored kindergarten, first grade, fifth grade, sixth grade, Advanced Business Statistics, and English as a Second Language. I enjoy every kind of tutoring I've ever done but prefer to work with younger students because they have a love of learning.
Learning is a part of who I am. There is so much to know and I love learning it. I have over 200 college credits and a GPA of 3.6. I've taken a wide array of courses from Business Law to Painting to Advanced Photoshop to Project Management. And there is still so much more to know. The world’s awaiting.
